Our Brain is 70% Water

Our Lungs are 90% Water

Our Blood is 83% Water

Our Body is 60% Water

The Daily Requirement just to sustain life is 0.6 gallons/2.3 liters

either from drinking or from food.  Nevertheless much of the water we use doesn't go into our bodies.

How Much Water is Wasted By Human Activities?

Some of us use much more than others…

The average person in the U.S. uses 100 to 175 gallons of water every day at home.

A typical U.S. household uses and average of 400 to 500 gallons of water per day.

In
Africa
the average family uses 5 gallons a day.  In many instances
they have to walk for miles just to get it.

H
ow much water does it take?
The statistics above do not include the amount of water used to feed and
Clothe us.

Here is the amount of water needed to produce some meal-sized portions:

Quarter Pound Hamburger (just the meat) = 2,900 Gallons of Water

Pork Chop = 530 Gallons of Water

Glass of Milk = 265 Gallons of Water

Mixed Salad = 130 Gallons of Water

Glass of Wine = 66 Gallons of Water

Bread = 40 Gallons of Water

Cup of Coffee = 37 Gallons of Water

Oh and do you add sugar to your coffee? = 3 Gallons of Water for 1 tsp.

The activities that Divert the Water Supply

Golf:

Based on the average water use of U.S. golf courses about 3,350 gallons of water is used to water the grass for every round of golf.

There are 16,100 golf courses in the U.S.  (while more being built) with an average of 90 rounds played per day. That adds up to 4,839,678,000 gallons of water used everyday to support golfing.

Swimming Pools:

There are about 7.4 million private pools in America, holding an average of 18,000 gallons of water per pool. That’s 113 trillion gallons for recreational use.

Each pool loses about 7,700 gallons each month in evaporation, splashing, and other activities in the pool. So we keep having to add more and more water.

Lawns and Gardening:

30% to 60% of all urban fresh water is used for watering lawns. 50% is wasted because of bad timing or because too much is used.

Nearly all of it could be saved by using native plants that require nothing beyond natural rainfall.

Cotton

Worldwide, cotton growing is a $12 billion industry. Its current production of 20 million tons is expected to more than double by 2050.

Cotton requires arid growing climates and enormous amounts of water up to 1 million gallons for every acre.

Which means that equals…

2,000 gallons of water is used for every

cotton T-Shirt made.
